Ask Love Doctor

Dear Doctor Lover,

My boyfriend is a college football player...he used to be so sweet and now he has changed. And its a change that I dont know if I can put up with. I know we both love each other dearly... and I want to be there for him through everything, but is it really worth it? Life is a test of faith...but will we pass it.... i'm going off to college in the fall...but Ill be 180 miles from him. How can I make this last... how can I make this work?

Sincerely, cocolove

Dear cocolove,

It sounds as if you are already doubting the relationship with your boyfriend. With the doubt and with the going to college, you may find yourself pulling away from him naturally as you find new friends and get into your new environment. If you have been reading any of my questions or blogs, you will understand that I am not a big fan of long-distant relationships. With that said, the only way to make it work is for the both of you to be on the same page and you must have excellent communication. If you don't talk to one another regularly, then the relationship will shred apart. However, what you need to do right now is talk with him and see where his head is. check to see if he is still committed to making it last with you. If he isnt 100% into the relationship, then you need to cut your losses and move on before you go to college heartbroken. Figure it out now before you waste time.
