Dear Doctor Lover,

I have been married for 23 years. The last 5 yrs we have not been intimate with one another. She doesn't want to sleep in the same room with me. She wants nothing to do with me. I am tired of living this type of life. All she wants is to argue all the time. I am very unhappy

Sincerely, Lenzy Woodard

Dear Lenzy Woodard,

As for your answer, being that you have not had sex with your wife in the past five years, I believe that it is way overdue for you to speak with her about it. If this is something that greatly bothers you, you need to let her know that. If she doesn't care or agree, then you need to decide if you want to continue living your life like this. Nonetheless, she may have a perfectly good reason as to why she isnt having sex with you. There could be some great explanation that she may have that is turning her away. Try to speak with her first before you make your move to let go of 23 years of marriage. She may need your help in solving the situation. You may need counseling or you may just need to find another connection and rebuild your relationship. However, 5 years of sleeping in separate rooms and getting turned away from your wife can take its toll on you. If she continues to avoid you, you should simply move on from the marriage. You only have one life to live and that is not the way that a marriage is designed to be. Choose the best route that you can handle. However, don't leave without first trying and exhausting all options to make your marriage work.
